Neighborhood guys
During the Civil War, Fort Woodbury was a short ways from my new apartment, maybe a block or so up the street. It was part of the Arlington Line, set up as extra protection for Washington after the first Union defeat at Bull Run. According to the Arlington Historical Society, Woodbury "had a perimeter of 275 yards and 19 emplacements for 13 guns."
Some Matthew Brady photographs from the fort still exist, halfway down this page.
