Jeff Strahota, 26, of Chevy Chase, made the trip in 1 hour, 37 minutes and 18 seconds, putting him in 31st place [out of 643 people]. He said he thought about a variety of things to help him persevere.
"At the first mile it was stroke rate, the second mile it was my lady friend," he said. "The third mile, I stared thinking about my hockey team and what they'd say if I can't play tonight. The last mile, it was, get the heck home."
