I'm pretty sure I've never seriously considered buying a turntable. I probably have about one playable record — Yankee Hotel Foxtrot — and about two dozen unplayable ones. They live in a plastic bag at the top of my closet.

So I'm surprised when Amazon sends me this ad yesterday. "As someone who's shown an interest in vinyl records and turntables, you might be interested in the great deals on Thorens turntables and accessories at Amazon.com." Might I? Why would they think I might be interested in great deals on turntables when I've never shopped for one? How in the world could they know that when I search for albums … ah. They know I am a long-play man.

So maybe that makes sense. But I'm still at a loss for what Netflix dealt me this weekend. Wine for Dummies is recommended based on my ratings of Three Days of the Condor, Monsoon Wedding and L'Auberge Espagnole.

For Condor, my only guess is that Redford's character could have really used a glass of wine with Faye Dunaway. But I'm a little biased. If the government was trying to kill me, I would stop to have a glass should the opportunity occur with '75 Dunaway — a fine, fine vintage.

But, still, maybe the only wine spirit out there is one Joe Turner can't trust. Because the classic line is totally a wine line, from a man named Joubert even.

"You have not much future there. It will happen this way. You may be walking. Maybe the first sunny day of the spring. And a car will slow beside you, and a door will open, and someone you know, maybe even trust, will get out of the car. And he will smile, a becoming smile. But he will leave open the door of the car and offer to give you a lift."
