Fall failiage tours
"Come see what's new for fall at MLB.com Shop," the e-mail said today. And what is new for fall? Failure! If you've ever wanted Washington Nationals relief pitcher Mike Bacsik to sign a ball for you, writing "I gave up Bonds' 756th Home Run," your wish has come true. Such autographed balls are what's new for fall in the Nats store. That said, if the ball didn't cost $79.99, I would totally get one.
But don't leave that page without clicking on the "Related Gear" tab. What kind of gear could relate to a relief pitcher making money off a recent failure of historic proportions? The first item doesn't disappoint: "Washington Nationals Steve Rogers Player Cards." Yes, that's Montreal Expos pitcher Steve Rogers. Yes, I have to look this one up. Loosely wiped from history, pitcher Steve Rogers apparently holds the all-time Expos/Nationals career records in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, complete games, and other categories. So, this card pack must be the world's greatest gift for somebody.
"Attention Steve Rogers fans! Have you ever opened countless packs of baseball cards without ever coming across one card of Steve Rogers? Well we've solved that problem for you. Now in one purchase you can get 20 different Steve Rogers trading cards along with a plastic 20 count card storage box."
