Two new blogs in the blogroll

First, Sam's Wine News Review offers a new take on the wine blog, integrating reviews, experiences and tastings with a fine bottle of Web 2.0. The about page sets the tone.

Growing up in an Italian-American household (front and center in the photo to the right, wearing, as fate would have it, a wine-colored sweater), I thought of wine as something basic to life, as important to a good dinner as a crusty slice of bread or, at least on Sundays, the luscious cannoli from the neighborhood pastry shop.

At church, it came as no surprise to me that wine was associated with miracles. For I would see my father return home tired and weary from a hard day's work as a construction laborer, clean up, come to the table and be transformed as my mother passed him a plate of pasta while he filled a small glass tumbler from the gallon jug.

Next, former USAT intern, former CRC resident, current Medill student, and current Wilco fan Dagny heads to a semester in Ireland.

Fast forward to the drive on a charter bus into Dublin from the airport. One of the Arcadia program people was telling us how today (Sun. Sept 16) was the Gaelic football finals- Cork vs Kerry. And how Cork wear red. So they wave the Confederate flag at games because it's also red. And how they hate Dublin/wish they were the capital. So they call themselves the Rebels (I've seen a ton of shirts saying Cork Rebel Country on mannequins also wearing cowboy hats). Because of all these similarities, Cork likes to say they act like Texas, according to the program guy. Go figure.

As I told friends earlier this summer, Dagny is one of the founders of a new daily campus news site, North by Northwestern, which apparently The Daily takes seriously enough to not let people work at both. It's pretty cool and reminds me of some certain other people, slightly older now. Thought you'd enjoy seeing it and knowing the kids are all right.

Thoughts?
