Waking up in the fall
It's easier to wake up in the dark when you're working than when you're in school. The kids sit at the edge of the parking lot every morning now in the pitch dark, and it's only after they're gone that sun really comes up. They preside over the dawn of destruction of the neighboring block, with the last of the old apartments coming down before the townhouses come in. Hope the builders replace the trees.
This morning for me starts with Inn Town. Slow on my lips, even slower in my head. Then Be My Baby into a verse I don't realize until half an hour later in the shower is the wrong one, one from Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. Then, book-ending with Ryan, the amps finally kick on Do Miss America. Aware of the world, I go to work.
