Art of an event as it happens

Colleague Joel got this picture of an Austin visual storyteller wrapping up her take on my panel at Pluck Socialize yesterday. Mixing outline and art in real-time, the approach was a great way to capture the discussion. You could see yourself going back to review the visual result much more than you could traditional bullet points.

The panel seemed to come off well, as did colleague Lou's, and the other panelists were awesome. Across the conference, we met a bunch of interesting people from news and marketing groups that also focus on online community development. Scotts Miracle-Gro's work may have been the most unlikely and so the most impressive.

The day ended with beers and a nice steak sandwich at the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz.

Pluck gave Lou a lifetime acheivement award, for essentially co-developing their hardcore API among other work, and Carson Daly (right) gave our integration the final prize.

Carson turned out to be a childhood friend of the parent company's CEO, with a sister actually working at the company. For the record, Carson was friendly, had a firm handshake and made a Seacrest joke.

I checked out the photos before I read what you actually wrote, and thought that the guy in the second picture resembled Carson Daly. Good to know I'm right some of the time!

I spent the first minute wondering, "Is it him? Is it someone who looks like him? How strange would it be to be a Carson Daly impersonator?" In the second minute, I decided it was him. Which made more sense.

See, this is why they have to keep me away from events like this. If somebody started drawing "Strategy Track!" art in front of me, I just…wouldn't behave. It's a problem.

But it does make you wonder what kind of art would result if someone ran around behind you all day and made a mural out of everything you said. Or maybe that's just me.

Will post link to the artist's site after I find it. Reportedly she does this for SXSW and other events as well.

I'm visualizing a mural of everything I say in a day..ow! ow! Make it stop!
