Pix: Life at a palace, not so bad

Taken in my first hour here. Here's behind the classroom palace…

… and the courtyard of the Meierhof, just a few steps from the palace, where we have our rooms, lounge (where I'm typing) and lectures…

… one of the many ridiculous rooms in the palace (more pix to come)…

… the back of the palace, where we drink wine…

Post coming later this week: Which of these scenes were actually in The Sound of Music, and what they totally faked you out on.

Seriously wishing I could reach through the computer and steal your spot. Beautiful! And here…it's just HOT and MUGGY and ALL WORK!

    DUDE!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow.

Please promise to come back with at least one photo of you spinning Julie Andrews-style on top of that mountain. Also, would it be too much to ask that you force your students to perform this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bRjbWV7T-s&feature=related for you each night?

The ballroom seen at the beginning of that shot was inspired by the room seen in pic #3 above. Unfortunately, the interiors were all filmed on a Hollywood set (and the ballroom is just a regular-sized, if also crazy, room in real life), and even the exterior shots of the Von Trapp house were filmed at a different mansion. More on that here later. We're all scheduled to watch the movie Sunday night, Colleen, and I have no doubt there will be singing.

Hike set to happen on a Friday day trip. The spinning meadow is reportedly halfway up, but I'm not sure. Will spin if I make it that far. There's also reportedly beer, pizza and a cable car there, so…

Kristen, off to buy you an air-conditioner — and hide from any hands reaching through my laptop! Hope you all get some relief from those temps soon.

If I were here I would be running around like a crazy singing nun the entire time.

I'm lovin' the pictures. Please keep them coming. I'm also thrilled to have 'access' to the questions and ongoing dialogue in the Academy. Thanks for including us! :-)

Def more to come! Struggling to find pic-cropping time but have some good ones. A certain hat makes an appearance. New friends here are writing some posts as well, will link to those later today or tomorrow.
