Happiest photo gallery you'll see all day

Fans after catching foul balls, from the Boston Globe. (But only check out the first half because the rest is random pix of people trying for fouls and not nearly as fun as the smiling.) Best graf from the story:

Monforto made his catch look easy, but as Christian Brunelle learned the other night, fielding a foul ball can be painful. Brunelle, 24, took one off his forehead, spilling several beers in the process before prying the ball from another fan, Steven Jensco, who briefly had it in his grasp. "I let him get it because he had the dent in his head," said Jensco, 22, as Brunelle held up the ball in triumph. "He's got the scar; he's got the story."

(Yes, I hate that semicolon too. Feeling better by looking at pix again. Find the best quotes for and against the semicolon here. Abe Lincoln, pro: "With educated people, I suppose, punctuation is a matter of rule; with me it is a matter of feeling. But I must say I have a great respect for the semi-colon; it's a useful little chap." Or Kurt Vonnegut, con: "Do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites, standing for absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college." I'm okay with the semicolon when you have to get across a couple pieces of info quickly but both are relatively lesser than their surroundings.)

(Related: Is the em dash replacing the semicolon? Editrix weighs in, and I agree with her. Let's keep the em dash out of the independent clause separation business. Among other options Editrix offers, she seems to like: "The period is, like, thud. It's like, peace out, bitches; this sentence is done. Got a problem with that? Didn't think so." But, hey, did you notice her semicolon in there? Again, not a fan here.)

I've never caught a foul but plan to some day. My mom got a Baysox one off the head in the Memorial Stadium days. A cousin got the ball.

I hate being looped into the Vonnegut-heads but Man Without A Country (which is where the semi-colon quote is from if memory serves) is without a doubt a must read for . . . anyone. I didn't use a semi-colon for 2 years after I read that. I've been trying the dash, especially in phone text messages, and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I'm a total semi-colon abuser. I was once called out for using a semi-colon in a note written with sharpie on a napkin.

Interesting. Of the 218 semicolon-related groups on Facebook, there are lots for semicolon appreciation and semicolon addicts but far fewer for the prevention of semicolon abuse.
