Grief, like you've never seen her before

In case you missed it on Shorpy a few weeks ago. Washingtonians are so used to seeing the Rock Creek Cemetery statue in its current form, aged by weather and time. It was stunning to see this photo from its first twenty years. Tight crop's below. Full, very large version is here.

About to publish, something else I just realized: How rare a photo from this angle is. Most pictures of the statue come from the other side, the cloak hiding less, or straight on. Here we get the mystery of sadness.
