Opening Day, part two: Obama, fireworks and the inevitable
Because the Washington Nationals have to start somewhere.
The president's entrance.

The president's pitch.
The handshakes with the troops' children.

The rockets' red glare.

The bombs bursting in air.

The first pitch of the new season.

The highest ERA Roy Halladay will have all year.

The cherry trees in the outfield.

The fastest-sewing man in the metropolitan area.

The fans wishing everyone happy Halladays.

The inevitable.

The inevitable.

The dad. Not sure where the mom was at the time.

The inevitable.

The waiting for Strasburg.

The only title the Nats have ever won. From Nat Pack to Miss America.

The only way an 11-1 Opening Day Nats' loss can end.

Teddy is an embarrassment. (By which I mean, LET HIM WIN.)

Are you going to Let Teddy Win night? (Sort of. All respect to We Love DC, but LTW needs its own night.) I did like this part of LTW's Opening Day recap, which somehow never crossed my mind but would have been insane: "Fans of the presidents race had been hoping that president Barack Obama would perhaps make a presidents race appearance of his own."

I sincerely hope you're not being too optimistic regarding Halladay's ERA.

By the end of the game, sadly, it was 1.29.

Thanks, I really appreciate the comment. Friends — the afore-commenting Meghan especially — and I are big fans of your blog and what you stand for. Hoping for a comeback in the late innings tonight!
