Four favorite songs of the week

A friend asked the other day what my favorite song was right now.

Gaslight Anthem, The Spirit of Jazz. My favorite beat on all of American Slang, "to do it like they do it for the girls uptown." Have to hear it.

Tom Jones covering John Lee Hooker's Burning Hell, apparently a live version of what he's releasing soon with Lost Highway. I'm interested.

Casey finds Shakira's cover of Islands and nails how she turns it "into an upbeat pop anthem while retaining its aching sense of unease."

Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler, This Is Us, on Letterman. A studio version and an official live version aren't nearly as smooth as this one.

Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler are so good together. Real live rodrunning is great!

I'll have to check out the rest of it. Was walking along the street today and heard an office building's A/C generator running. The first thing I thought of was the bass on this song and the second was vuvuzelas.

Thoughts?
