Happy vanity-plate Thanksgiving

The illegible plate above said "GUDGRVE." Two weeks ago, I pulled up behind the car as the light went green. I realized what a Thanksgiving plate it had and chased it until we had to part ways at the Key Bridge.

I didn't get the full plate, but the struggle was a lesson. Sometimes full plates weren't easy. You know where full plates also didn't come easy? Plymouth, Massachusetts! For full plates, everyone had to bring a little.

So, thanks to everybody who's contributed to our cornucopia of vanity plates this year, by photographing, clicking or just having the plates. I am grateful for much else, but the following plates can do the talking.

In 1621, there were no vanity plates.

I hear there weren't even automobiles.

But this Thanksgiving…

This vanity-plate Thanksgiving…

Thanks for our families. (Photo by my dad.)

Thanks for our happiness.

Thanks for our country.

Thanks for our food. (Photo by Tom.)

Thanks for us bringing our food together.

Thanks for our pies — our pies! — in particular. (Photo by Tom.)

Thanks for our years.

Thanks for our health.

Thanks for our music.

Thanks for our pets.

Thanks for our homes, near and far.

Thanks for our vanity plates, sensical and non.

Thanks for a thankful day off.
