The autumn of our vanity plates

From the courthouse parking lot, friends, Chicago, and elsewhere.

We rebel when we're young, when the seasons of our lives are new.

But, while some fall short, we reach our October and then November.

We try vainly, in our vanity plates, to hold tight to youth and action.

How? We live vicariously through our sports heroes.

Or as in this photo Tracie sends, we attempt living as a man-child.

Or as in this photo from Ellen, we try to return to our younger selves.

But, as in this shot from Karen, soon only winter lies ahead.

The early bird specials grow more tempting.

The music gets a little too loud.

Our only choice is to accept.

We work hard, as in what Melissa sends, to hope for release.

And not the opposite.

E-mail or MMS me plates when you see them! Together, we can create the Aesop's Fables of vanity plates.
