… was what I thought upon seeing this painting, “Worry Wart” by Matt Hansel. Was it weird to find the piece immediately relateable? Maybe.

But here we are.

(This seemed like a good Monday post.)

It was my favorite in Oxford American‘s spring “Visual South” issue, in “100 Under 100: New Superstars of Southern Art.” Check out Hansel’s website here, and see the confetti (yes?) version of the painting here.

If you have time also read OA founder/editor Marc Smirnoff’s letter in the issue, chasing after Southern-magazine competitor — pretender to him — Garden & Gun. The letter is feisty, honest and probably right. If you care about the identity of publications and their content, read it.
