VP Barr plans to retire in 2000
After spending seven years at Northwestern fighting for everything from residence hall renovations to better behavior at tailgates, Vice President for Student Affairs Peggy Barr announced Wednesday she will retire after the 1999-2000 school year.
Barr will leave behind a legacy of commitment to students, administrators said.
"Northwestern students may not always believe the fact that this is a very student-centered place," said Al Cubbage, vice president for university relations. "She epitomizes the student-centeredness."

No programming organized yet for MLK Day celebration
Despite that Northwestern administrators agreed in March to form a Martin Luther King Jr. Day planning committee at the beginning of Spring Quarter, the group still remains in the formative stages and no programming has been planned.
University President Henry Bienen and Provost Lawrence Dumas said last quarter they would cancel classes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on MLK Day and establish a committee of students, staff, faculty and administrators to plan expanded programming, including organizing performances and bringing speakers.
