Flash use
The front page menu/map, as well as the menu bars on all inside pages, was done in Flash 5. On the inside pages, the text at the top of the yellow boxes is inserted by a connection between Javascript and Flash. Also, the gray search box on the inside pages was done in HTML.

"Printable version"
The "printable version" feature was done through a combination of server side includes and Javascript. Each article page, such as "nevins.shtml," pulls in a separate page that contains the headline, subhead, article text and any inner boxes, which are displayed on the right-hand side. The url of this separate page includes "articletext" in the file name, such as "nevins-articletext.shtml."

"Get a printable version" then links to the "articletext" page. This eliminates the article header and menu bar from the page. As the page loads, a script checks to see if "articletext" is part of the URL. If it is, then the inner boxes disappear. All that is left is text.
