Roll Call articles

I was the online intern for Roll Call, the leading Capitol Hill newspaper, during this stretch, but had the opportunity to research and write for the paper as the summer progressed.

(Note: No links here. None of the paper's issues from this time have yet joined the archives of Roll Call's Web site.)

June 21, 2001: In His Grand Finale, Largent Vows to Go the Distance
... Preview of annual Congressional baseball game.

June 25, 2001: In Largent's Farewell, Republicans Win Big
... Wrap-up of Congressional baseball game. I covered the Dems' dugout.

July 5, 2001: After the Baseball Game, Everyone's a Hero Back Home
... Hometown reaction to the baseball game.

July 19, 2001: Daschle's Proud Mentor Looks Back
... "Life After Congress" profile of former Sen. James Abourezk.

In August, I spent weeks researching and reporting on disclosed travel by Congressional staffers. After entering the records into a spreadsheet, I ran the data different ways to draw links between the trips and compile list of staffers accepting the most paid travel, organizations paying for the most travel, and other methods of comparison. My work ran in a three-day series of articles in the paper's Web edition that October.

Among minor items, I also contributed to "Dress Codes a Fact of Life on Hill," a long report on Hill dress codes in the Aug. 9 issue of the paper, and various items in the "Heard on the Hill" column.
