"The deafening screams exploded like a champagne cork as the willowy chanteuse took to the DAR Constitution Hall stage."
You read correctly. Chanteuse. Washington Times reviewer Jessica Leshnoff applies the term to Ashlee Simpson.
The Post's Dave McKenna is less positive.

Story about a declining pool checkers club in Washington: "On a table in the back, there's a coffeepot and a microwave, and a shelf holds a small selection of books, including three Bibles, The Complete Poetry and Selected Prose of John Donne and Operative Surgeries of the Nose, Throat and Ear. None appears overused."

My server appears to be moved and back to normal. But the transition isn't perfect … yet.
If you sent me e-mail between midnight and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday (the 29th), please send it again.
For DNS reasons or otherwise, that mail of mine is still floating around cyberspace. I hope it will arrive eventually, but it hasn't yet.

You missed him. But Ellen has posted sweet, sweet screenshots of his appearance. Thank you, TiVo and Ellen.

At some time in our lives, we've all put potato chips in a sandwich, just to see how a crunchy sandwich would taste. I think I was about seven when I did this with a roast beef sandwich. And eight as well. A few attempts are necessary for some of us.
It's such scientific experimenting that comes to mind when I read, "When [Billy] Idol tries to sing — as on the regrettable Plastic Jesus — he sounds like Meat Loaf with a mouthful of Utz."
The Post reviews Idol's new album.

DCist linked to this small collection pf pictures yesterday. You can read "Chevy Chase Center" on the sign in the back, at the top. I'm guessing the car is headed southward on Wisconsin Avenue, past what would become the Metro building.

My host is moving its resources today, so both the site and my e-mail are only working sporadically. They're likely return to steady service tomorrow.

The Post looks at Gene Wilder's autobiography.
And he knew immediately that he'd found not just a star but a creative partner when Wilder insisted on one major tweak to the script. He told Stuart that he wouldn't take the role unless Wonka entered the movie, and revealed himself to the public for the first time, pretending to be crippled and feigning the need for a cane. It's one of the most memorable moments in the film: In one instant Wonka appears to halt, the next he tumbles forward and leaps to his feet with a smile that says, "Fooled you!"
"I knew that from then on," Wilder says, "the audience wouldn't know if I was lying or telling the truth."
More on his life and book.
