USA TODAY’s 1985 jingle… the video!

(Update March 2020 – old YouTube link died, so replaced it.)

Two years in this space, we talked about the mysterious USA TODAY jingle mentioned in Making of McPaper and tracked down Real Audio.

Today, I’m happy to report video has since made it way to YouTube.

Jane Byrne, Charles Schwab, Willard Scott, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Diahann Carroll, a tote bag deal, rhyming “play” with “play,” and more.

YouTuber: “I had the privilege of visiting with Willard Scott in March 1995 on a morning when ‘USA Today’ ran a news item about him. He was so pleased to read it that he broke into the ‘I read it every day!’ song in his office, more than a decade after this commercial.”

For your iTunes playlists, friends, I’ve ripped the audio to a mp3. Also, since I think the lyrics should be Google-able, enjoy and sing along:

I read it every day
For news around the USA
I read it every day
For business that really pays
I read it every day
For weather that’s on the way
I read it every day
For sports that people play
Every day, for movies, books and plays
At home or away, I read it every day
USA TODAY!

I read every day
Just like my pal, Say Hey
I read it every day
To see who’s hot today
Every day, for mergers on the way
At home or away, I read it every day
USA TODAY!

I read it every day,
USA TODAY!
Every day!
